the backlash starts now.
arcade fire is the new TVOTR. and by that, I mean excessively overhyped indie band which middle-of-the-road music journalists all agree to love. (and Pitchfork, you're not exempt from this classification...)

With the release of this album, and oceans of praise being poured upon it, indie rock has officially been killed off.
Sell your guitars. fuck around with some synths, vocoders, editing/sequencing programs, vst plugins, turntables (optional), and start making the new "indie rock". let's hear some shit that the "edgy" middle-class white suburbanites can't listen to.

I brought this up in the DR music club forum where I said the excitement and buzz around Arcade Fire right now reminds me of the excitement and buzz around "OK Computer." One Radioheadhead took it the wrong way and started comparing the two bands. But I seriously haven't seen a non-mainstream band so universally adored since "OK Computer."
